The Bordun Lyre is a very versatile instrument created primarily for use in groups.
Tuned to chords, it provides opportunity for simple harmonic improvisations or song accompaniments.
The strings are arranged in a crossing pattern (bass and "melody" strings), facilitating, on the one hand, differentiations of dark and light sounds, but also melodies in various scales with drone accompaniment. 16 steel strings in a crossing pattern.
All strings can be re-tuned within the range of a fourth (a minor third up or down)
- from the basic tuning; treble strings: d'-e'-f#'-g'-a'-b'-c#''-d''-e''-f#''-g'';
- bass (drone) strings: d-a-a-d'-d'-d'; Standard Modell in maple with mahogany top, clear shellac varnish.(Mahogany produces a full, warm sound)
